roots & rhythms: a celebration of afro-latine heritage

Roots & Rhythms was a community event presented by @bebesboricuas to ‘honor and celebrate the Africana roots, rhythms, and communities that have molded and continue to mold our cultures in Latin America. Featuring Afro-Latine artists, performers, and entrepreneurs of NYC.’ I had the honor of vending alongside countless other talented artists, designers, musicians, and community members in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Here I presented a small table of prints including ‘Taino de la Sol’, a reimagined representation of the Puerto Rican flag featuring one of the Taino symbols for the sun while incorporating the island’s mountainous landscape and beautiful blue beaches. Other prints were also available including ‘I Am Not My Hair’, a print inspired by India Arie’s song of the same namesake. Hand-crafted stickers were for sale along with free giveaways of stickers I’ve collected throughout the recent anti-war, pro-Palestine protests across the city and mini versions of the Puerto Rican Resistance flag created using scrap pieces of sticker paper.
